When media strategist Kevin Hersh led a Group Study Exchange trip from District 7470 (New Jersey, USA) to India in late 2012, he relied on his smartphone’s camera to document the journey through Uttar Pradesh, a northern state that borders Nepal. Hersh, a member of the Rotary Club of The Caldwells, snapped photos of the Taj Majal and the Ganges River, banana vendors and stray dogs, as the group traveled more than 1,000 miles and met with 48 Rotary clubs across India’s most populous region.

The Rotary Club of Eagle River Area in Alaska experienced a 50 percent increase in membership after building a playground designed for children with disabilities to play alongside their classmates.
Former club president Tonya Gamble says the club is always looking for ways to increase membership, but it wasn’t until they took on the park project that the club saw its membership rise from 29 to 43 members. Rotary members helped raise funds and assemble the park equipment.

On 27 March, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) will declare the South-East Asia Region of the World Health Organization polio-free, an important milestone in the worldwide effort to eradicate polio. The 11 countries in the region — Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Timor-Leste — are home to 1.8 billion people and represent the fourth of six regions worldwide to be officially certified polio-free.

A primary school without desks, a secondary school in need of floors and windows, and a health clinic that lacked beds. These are some of the challenges that have faced three villages in eastern Ghana — and that Danish Rotary members have taken on over the last four years.
